Oregon has paid a lot of money, and wasted a lot of essential classroom time, for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) testing system. We hear the contract expires this year! We should avoid wasting any more money on it!
SBAC does not help student poverty, it does not improve instruction, and those funds could better go to restoring curriculum and student wraparound services. We need to encourage Gov. Brown and legislators that high-stakes standardized testing, such as SBAC, is worse than a waste, it does harm to our school system. Encourage Gov. Brown to not renew the SBAC contract, and to not replace it with another expensive, high-stakes testing approach. Download a postcard you can send to the Governor, and make copies for your friends and others in your school!
